YOUTH

Youth insights and priorities shape every aspect of the Healing Arts Center’s programs and services. Youth are full partners, with the expectation that they not only receive services but also serve the community in return. In contrast to prevailing images of truancy and violence, when provided with constructive opportunities, Bayview Hunters Point youth demonstrate a remarkable willingness and ability to contribute positively to the neighborhood.

ORGANIZATIONS

The Healing Arts Center’s community partners have identified eight key criteria for high quality programs and set measurable goals for local youth. The Center’s professional development program will build capacity to meet these criteria, and an annual State of Bayview Hunters Point report will document progress toward attaining the community’s goals.

COMMUNITY

Bayview Hunters Point is the San Francisco neighborhood with the largest number of children and youth. The Healing Arts Center will increase their access to quality programs and services close to home and help to ensure that changes under way in the community benefit current residents. Future plans for the Center include expansion of the existing facility and launch of a new community school.
